In fall 1968, teachers were working without a contract, which meant NO MARCHING BAND at Falcons games!. Members of the band put together our own Football pep band. We didn't march, but we played Marches and pep songs from the stands. It was incredible. Tom LeLasher was a very talented senior baritone player and taught me how to do triple tonguing on the trombone ("tug-et-tee"). Craig Dietrich was 1st chair trombonist till he graduated in 1969 and generated much enthusiasm in the trombone section. Later, in 1970, 4 Groves trombonists went on to play a concert with the legendary Urbie Green at Fraser High School, were as most schools only contributed one, if that. Coach Carson was our gym teacher until his untimely death that autumn. That's why there's a "Carson" memorial gym! Mrs Goldsmith was my 10th grade English teacher. She always made class fun, especially when we acted out the parts to West Side Story! Well, that's enough rambling for the moment! Go Falcons! Bugs Beddow 2/4/05
