Welcome to the Groves High School Bands.
- Marching Band - During the first trimester, members of ALL bands are will participate in the Marching Band. The band will practice and performs at all home varsity football games and selected events.
- Concert Band - This is the instrumental class comprised of students in grades 9 and 10 with instruction focused upon establishing fundamental music and technical skills as a concert ensemble. Emphasis is placed upon moderately difficult literature, interpretive ability and music reading. All performances are a requirement of the class. During the first 9 weeks of the semester, members of this band are required to participate in the Marching Band, which performs at all home varsity football games and selected events. Solo and ensemble performance is encouraged.
- Symphony Band - This is the instrumental music class comprised of students in grades 10 and 11. Instruction is focused upon advancing music and technical skills as a concert ensemble. Emphasis is placed upon moderately difficult literature, interpretive ability and music reading. All performances are a requirement of the class. During the first 9 weeks of the fall semester, members of this band are required to participate in the Marching Band, which performs at all home varsity football games and selected events. Solo and ensemble performance is encouraged.
- Wind Ensemble - This is the instrumental music class comprised of students in grade 12, as well as 10th and 11th grade students who qualify by audition and/or invitation of the instructor. As an advanced level concert band, technique, interpretive and reading skills are heavily emphasized. Selections from the best contemporary wind band literature and orchestral transcriptions are performed. All performances are a requirement of the class. During the first 9 weeks of the fall semester, members of the band are required to participate in the Marching Band which performs at all home varsity football games, community parades, and selected events. Solo and ensemble performance is encouraged.
- Jazz Band - This is an optional ad-hoc group of band members who want to play jazz. Practice will be during x-block after the football season. The band will perform during the regular concerts. Students who are interested should see Mr. Z. at then beginning of the school year.
